Second Mate (FG) Competency Course Description
Second Mate (FG) Competency Course is a 4-month DG shipping-approved course. The main objective is to prepare a candidate to appear for the examinations of the Second Mate of the Certificate of Competency as Second Mate of a Foreign Going Ship.
This course covers part of the education and training required under Regulation II/1 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/1 of the STCW 95. Appendix M-II/1C of META Manual Vol.II and IMO Model course 7.03 should be used in the preparation of material for this course.
The 2nd Mate CoC is valid for 5 years, after which you have to appear for the RUT course for Masters and Deck Officer to renew your CoC for sailing.
Eligibility for Second Mate (FG) Competency Course
To attend the Second Mate (FG) Competency course, you need to clear all of the points mentioned below.
- Age Requirement
- 10+2 PCM (Minimum 60%) + Pre-Sea Training (B.Sc. Nautical Science) + 12 Months SSTP Sea Service.
- OR
- 10+2 PCM + Pre-Sea Training (DNS) + 18 Months SSTP Sea Service
- Sea time completion letter from the company and SSTP Cadet Record Book
- Valid INDoS number
- Valid Indian Passport
- Valid Indian CDC
