The Refresher FPFF course equips seafarers with the essential knowledge and skills required to effectively manage and respond to fire emergencies onboard ships. The training covers:
- Use various types of portable fire extinguishers.
- Extinguish smaller fires e.g. electrical fires, oil fires, propane fires.
- Extinguish fires with water, using jet and spray nozzles.
- Extinguish fires with foam, powder, or any other suitable chemical agent.
- Enter and pass through, with a lifeline but without breathing apparatus, a compartment into which high expansion foam has been injected.
- Fight fire in smoke-filled enclosed spaces wearing SCBA.
- Extinguish fire with water or any other suitable fire fighting agent in an accommodation or simulated engine room with fire and heavy smoke.
- Extinguish oil fire with a fog applicator and spray nozzles, dry chemical powder or foam applicator.
- Effect rescue in a smoke-filled space wearing breathing apparatus.
- Inspect and service fire detection and fire extinguishing systems and equipment
- Requirements for statutory and classification surveys (practical exercises using approved equipment and systems in a realistic training environment)
- Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire.
