ETO CoC Preparatory Course Description
The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) CoC Preparatory Course is a mandatory, intensive 1-month offline training program introduced by the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA / DG Shipping) under STCW Regulation III/6 and Section A-III/6.
As noted in DGMA EAC Circular No. 49 of 2026, ETO candidates traditionally lacked a structured academic revision and technical orientation program after completing their pre-sea training and shipboard tenure, leading to struggles in oral assessments and troubleshooting evaluations. This preparatory course bridges the gap between onboard experience and modern technological advancements—covering high-voltage systems, integrated automation, power electronics, PLC diagnostics, OT cyber security, and statutory conventions.
Eligibility for ETO CoC Preparatory Course
Under Part B (Section VI) of Circular 49 of 2026, successful completion of this preparatory course is a MANDATORY PREREQUISITE for:
First-Time Applicants: All candidates applying for Eligibility Assessment or intending to appear for the ETO Certificate of Competency (CoC) written and/or oral examination for the first time on or after 01 January 2027.
Re-appearing Candidates: Candidates who have completed Eligibility Assessment but have NOT appeared for either written or oral examinations of the ETO CoC examination in the calendar year 2026, and intend to appear on or after 01 January 2027.
