The TASCO Course allows the seafarer to learn about the use of equipment, understand chemical and physical properties of oil cargoes, and conduct risk assessment on an oil tanker.
The TASCO Course is compulsory course to join the oil tanker in Merchant Navy. Without the TASCO STCW Course, you will not be able to join the oil tanker.

TASCO Course Eligibility
To join the TASCO course, the candidate need to clear the following eligibility criteria.
- The candidates must have a Certificate of Proficiency as a Rating in charge of a Navigational or Engineering watch,
OR
- The seafarer must have completed the required sea time to be eligible for a CoC examination.
- The seafarer must hold a valid Certificate of Competency as an officer.
- The candidate must possess a Certificate of Proficiency for Basic Training in Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations.
Sea Service Requirements For TASCO Course:-
- A minimum of three months of approved sea service on oil tankers within the last 6 months.
- Alternatively, at least one month of approved onboard training on an oil tankers in a supervisory capacity, which includes a minimum of three loading and three unloading operations, documented as part of an approved Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations.
Medical Fitness For TASCO Course:-
- Must be medically fit as per the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards.
- A medical fitness certificate from an approved doctor is required.
- Vision and hearing should meet the required standards.
TASCO Course E-Learning Requirement:-
- As per DG Shipping, candidates can only appear for the TASCO Course Exit Exam after successfully completing the TASCO Course E-Learning.
TASCO Course Requirements
To apply for the TASCO course you require the following list of documents:
- INDoS
- Valid Medicals by a D.G. Shipping Approved Doctor (Click here for the list of DGS Approved Doctors)
- OCTCO or CTFC Certificate (D.G. Shipping Approved)
- CDC with a proof of sea service
- If the sea service and the certificate details are updated on the Seafarer Profile, then the seafarer profile can be submitted.
TASCO Course Fees
The TASCO course fees depends on college to college. Some colleges provide accommodation which ultimately affects the price of the course. TASCO Exit Exam
The TASCO Exit Exam is very important for seafarers who wants to sail on Oil Tankers in Merchant Navy. Without clearing the TASCO Exit Exam, you are not eligible to manage or handle the cargo operations on an oil tanker. The TASCO exit exam is 30 marks exam out of which, the candidates need to score at least 70% marks to get the TASCO STCW certificate.

- TASCO Course E-Learning:
- Minimum Study Hours: 32 hours
- Passing Marks: 70%
- Steps to Complete TASCO Course E-Learning:
- Visit the DG Shipping website and access the e-learning portal.
- Click on Modular Courses, enroll in TASCO, and log in with face verification.
- Complete the required e-learning hours and attempt the assessment exam.
- Upon passing, candidates become eligible for 5-day classroom training at a DG Shipping-approved MTI.
- After classroom training, candidates must take the Exit Exam on the DG Shipping website.

- After completing E-Learning, Offline Training, and Exit Exam, the MTI generates the STCW TASCO ccertificate.
- The certificate can be downloaded through the Indos CoP Checker on the DG Shipping website.

What is the TASCO Certificate Validity?
- The TASCO STCW certificate is valid indefinitely, while the DCE (Dangerous Cargo Endorsement) certificate is valid for 5 years.
