The PFSO course Port Facility Security Officer is a 3-day DG Shipping-approved structured course and is aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO), as defined in section A/2.1.8 , section A/17 of the ISPS Code and in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a port facility, for ensuring the development (or for developing) of a Port Facility Security Assessment, implementing, maintaining and updating a Port Facility Security Plan and for liaising with Ship Security Officers (SSOs) and with Company Security Officers (CSOs).

Eligibility for PFSO Course

To attend the PFSO Course, you need to clear all of the points mentioned below.

    • Must be at least 18 years old. .
  2. Educational Qualification
    • Minimum qualification: 10th pass.
    • Must possess a valid Indian CDC.
    • Should have successfully cleared:- Basic Safety Training (BST) exit exam & STSDSD (Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties) exit exam
  3. Medical Fitness
  4. Nationality & Identity Proof
    • Valid passport or national identity document (as per country regulations).
  5. No Criminal Record
    • Some training institutes may require a police clearance certificate if you had any record of offense.
  • Core principles of liquefied gas cargo operations
  • Safety protocols and industry best practices
  • Properties and characteristics of liquefied gases
  • Advanced equipment and technology used in cargo handling
  • Emergency response procedures for gas tanker operations

With a focus on practical skills and regulatory compliance, this program equips seafarers with the expertise required for safe and efficient gas tanker operations.

PFSO Course Details

Those who complete this course should be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities as Port Facility Security Officer which includes:

  1. Conducting an initial comprehensive security survey of the port facility taking into account the relevant Port Facility Security Assessment;
  2. Ensuring the development and maintenance of the Port Facility Security Plan,
  3. Implementing and exercising the Port Facility Security Plan;
  4. Undertaking regular security inspections of the port facility to ensure the continuation of appropriate security measures;
  5. Recommending and incorporating, as appropriate, modifications to the Port Facility Security Plan in order to correct deficiencies and to update the plan to take into account of relevant changes to the port facility;
  6. Enhancing security awareness and vigilance of the port facility personnel;
  7. Ensuring adequate training has been provided to personnel responsible for the security of the port facility; 
  8. Reporting to the relevant authorities and maintaining records of occurrences that threaten the security of the port facility;
  9. Coordinating implementation of the Port Facility Security Plan with the appropriate.

Complete Process for PFSO Exit Exam

1. E-Learning Requirements for PFSO Exit Exam

  • Minimum Study Hours: 12 hours
  • Passing Marks: 60%

2. Steps to Complete E-Learning:

  • Visit the DG Shipping website and access the e-learning portal.
  • Click on Modular Courses, enroll in the PFSO course, and log in with face verification.
  • Complete the required e-learning hours and attempt the assessment exam.
  • Upon passing, candidates become eligible for 6-day classroom training at a DG Shipping-approved MTI.
  • After classroom training, candidates must take the Exit Exam on the DG Shipping website.

3. PFSO Exit Exam Details

  • Total Questions: 30
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Passing Marks: 15
  • Marks per Question: 1
  • Mandatory to Attempt: All questions

How to Download the PFSO Course Certificate?

  • After completing E-Learning, Offline Training, and the Exit Exam, the MTI generates the STCW PFSO certificate.
  • The certificate can be downloaded through the Indos CoP Checker on the DG Shipping website.
