What is GTFC/LGTF?
GTFC stands for Basic Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations. Many institutions refer to GTFC/LGTF as LPG/LNG (liquefied gas)-tanker familiarisation that is required before any personnel can be assigned with duties of cargo equipment on LPG/LNG tankers as outlined by STCW Regulation V/1-2, which is the basis of GTFC training.
All ratings/cadets/officers who will perform any cargo-related duties on gas tankers (including but not limited to all classifications of officer) are required to complete the GTFC training.
When applying for an Indian gas tanker endorsement/DCE the majority of institutions/portals will view the GTFC/LGTF training as the basic entry-level requirement for you to be successfully received and considered for the endorsement/DCE process.At present, GTFC/LGTF courses in Delhi are conducted by very few institutions. Since the seats are filled up quite rapidly at all Delhi institutions you might not be able to get the dates that suit you. Eligibility requirement for GTFC/LGTF
GTFC/LGTF is a basic level course that many people qualify to take because it is simple.
- The first thing that you will need is to be a seaman with a valid INDoS certificate and able to go to sea.
- A second requirement is that you usually need to have completed Basic Safety Training (BST). Most organizations/Institutions that issue certificates to you will require you to have completed BST according to DG Shipping Admission Regulations for Marine Training Institutions (MTIs).
- Medical Fitness is solely a requirement; you must be in good health; you must have a DG-Shipping Approved Medical Fitness Certificate! Your vision and hearing must meet the fitness requirements.
- The last thing is that you do not need to have any Sea-Time on a Gas Carrier in order to be allowed to enter the GTFC/LGTF Course, as the GTFC/LGTF Course is only a “Basic” Training Course.
Documents requirement for GTFC/LGTF
Before you can start your OCTCO/OCTO course at a maritime training institution, you will generally be required to submit certain documents.
- This includes a current Indian Passport (including copies).
- If you have previous seagoing experience, you will be required to submit a Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC).
- You will be required to have completed a full medical fitness examination by a doctor registered with the Directorate General of Shipping and provide a copy of this.
- You will be required to submit 2 – 4 passport-sized colour photographs in formal uniform.
NOTE: If you have your details and certificates, fully updated in your Seafarer Profile, you may not require any additional supporting documents for your application.
