Eligibility for BIGF Course
To qualify to attend the Basic Training in Ships Using Fuels Covered by the IGF Code (IGF Code – Basic) there are some eligibility requirements that a candidate needs to satisfy before being allowed to take the course. The following must be completed by the applicant to become eligible for the course:
- An applicant for this course must be a Seafarer.
- All STCW Basic Safety Training (VI/1) courses (PST, FPFF, EFA and PSSR) must be completed by the applicant.
- An applicant must have documentation of their sea service history in the form of a current Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) or a Sea Service Log Book showing Service as either; a Trainee Seafarer or Exempt Seafarer.
- In addition, in order for an applicant to complete the course they’ll need to have completed an e-learning component as supplied by the Directorate General of Shipping prior to taking the final examination.
- Holders of Basic or Advanced Gas Tanker Endorsements shall receive exemption as required by DG Shipping guidelines.
