MEO Class – I Preparatory Course is a 2-month DG shipping-approved course, the main objectives are to prepare a candidate to appear for the examinations of MEO Class – I of the Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer of a Foreign going Ship.
This course covers part of the education and training required under Regulation II/2 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/2 of the STCW 95. Appendix M-II/2A of META Manual Vol. II and IMO Model course 7.01 should be used in the preparation of material for this course.

MEO Class - I Preparatory Course Eligibility
To attend the MEO Class – I Preparatory Course, you need to clear all of the points mentioned below.
- For Motor/Steam
- Must have done 36 Months as Engineer officer on watch which shall include 12 Months as holder of COC as MEO Class II and, but in case if candidate have done 12 Months of sea time as 2nd Engineer officer for Steam/Motor then 36 Months shall be reduced to 24 months.
- The propelling time must be at least two thirds of the corresponding sea service period.
- For Combine (Motor and Steam)
- Must have done 40 Months (20 Months Motor + 20 Months steam) which shall include not less than 12 months as holder of COC as MEO Class II combined (Steam and Motor) and, but incase if candidate have done 12 Months 2nd Engineer officer for Steam/Motor then 40 Months shall be reduced to 36 Months (18 Months motor + 18 months Steam).
- The Propelling time must be at least two thirds of the corresponding sea service period.

- A valid CDC with proof of 18-month sea service,

- Knowledge of National legislation, Indian Merchant Shipping Act, knowledge of International Treaties, Conventions, Protocols, Rules legislations & regulations including United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS).
