Master FG Advanced Shipboard Management (ASM) Competency Course is a 45-day DG shipping-approved course, the main objectives are to prepare a candidate to appear for the examinations of Advanced Shipboard Management of the Certificate of Competency as Master of a Foreign going Ship.

 This course covers part of the education and training required under Regulation II/2 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/2 of the STCW 95. Appendix M-II/2A of META Manual Vol. II and IMO Model course 7.01 should be used in the preparation of material for this course.

Eligibility for Master FG Advanced Shipboard Management (ASM) Competency Course

To attend the Master FG Advanced Shipboard Management (ASM) Competency course, you need to clear all of the points mentioned below

  1. Candidates must have the certificate of competency (CoC) as Chief Mate(FG).
  2. Candidates must have Sea Service of 12 Months after obtaining Chief  Mate (FG) Certificate Of Competency (CoC) and 36 Months of Sea Service after obtaining Second Mate (FG) CoC.
  3. The duration of 36 Months will be reduced to 30 Months if sailed as a Chief Officer for 12 months after obtaining First Mate (FG) CoC.

  3. Methods of dealing with stowaways, hijacking of ships, armed robbery / piracy, smuggling and other custom offences, drug and alcohol policy and its enforcement
  4. Custom house procedures
  5. Master – Pilot relationship
  6. International institutions: IMO, ILO, WHO, ISF, IACS, BIMCO, ICS, OCIMF, SIGTTO, INTERTANKO, INTERCARGO, WTO, IMCA, IFSMA, WMU, IMLI and classification societies
  7. Control procedures: Classification surveys, Flag State Control, Port State Control, Charterer’s vetting inspections, inspections by port terminal authorities, and Condition surveys. 
  8. Emergency Response Procedures
  9. Environmental Protection: Marpol Annexes I to VI, SOPEP/SMPEP, Vessel Response Plan, oil record book. Ballast Water Management, OPA 90 & NPDES. (National Pollution Discharge Elimination System of U.S.A.) 
  10. Operating in Ice: Basic ship handling in ice, sighting of ice / open water, working through ice, navigation in ice. High latitude Navigation – procedures & precaution. Polar Code. effects of ice accretion on the stability of the vessel.
