BST Course Description
Before a seafarer can board a vessel, he/she must complete the Basic Safety Course (BST or STCW Basic Training). The BST provides the seafarer with several other training courses that prepare him/her for any possible emergency situation while on board, including fires, flood situations, abandoning the ship, and all medical emergencies.
Eligibility for BST Course
- To enroll in the BST Course, you must satisfy all the following criteria:
- Age Requirement
- Must be 18 or older.
- Educational Qualification
- At minimum, you need a 10th-grade education.
- Medical Requirement/Fitness
- Your medical fit to international maritime organization (IMO) standards; you must provide a letter from an approved medical practitioner proving that you meet the required criteria, including; eyesight and hearing.
- Nationality & Proof of Identification
- A valid passport or a national identity card will suffice as proof of identification according to your strata’s law.
- No Criminal Background
- If you have ever been accused of, or have an arrest record, you have to provide proof or police clearance from your country.
Documents Required for BST Course
In order to apply for the BST course, you will require documentation from the following:
- An INDoS Id
- A valid medical certificate from a DG Shipping-approved doctor.
- A passport.
- Some colleges may additionally request a 10th grade mark sheet from an established board.
BST Course Details
