BIGF Course in Kolkata
The acronym for the Basic Training for Ships using Fuels Covered under the IGF Code (BIGF) refers to an approved Merchant Navy safety certification issued by DG Shipping which is designated for modern (low flashpoint) fuels used to power ships (geared toward LNG and other related fuels). The basic training provided through course completion also meets standard STCW training requirements. The BIGF Course teaches Seafarers how to operate safely on vessels that are served by fuels covered under the IGF Code (being LNG and low flashpoint). Training content includes the properties of fuels, types of fuel storage, identification of hazards, precautions to avoid hazards, fire and other emergencies, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, and procedures designed to help ensure a safe workplace. Course candidates must first complete the basic STCW safety training program, then complete the associated e-learning program before attending the formal instructor-led classroom and practical training sessions. Following successful completion of the BIGF Course, candidates are awarded an STCW certificate.
