The CHEMCO course (Full form: Advanced Training for Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations) is 10 days DG Shipping approved structured course designed to provide specialized training for Masters, Chief Engineer Officers, Chief Mates, Second Engineer Officers, and personnel responsible for cargo operations on chemical tankers. Upon successful completion of this course, trainees will be able to:

Eligibility for CHEMCO Course
To attend the CHEMCO Course, you need to clear all of the points mentioned below.
- Hold a Certificate of Proficiency as a Rating in charge of a Navigational or Engineering watch, OR have completed the required sea time to be eligible for a Certificate of Competency examination.
- Hold a valid Certificate of Competency as an officer.
- Possess a Certificate of Proficiency for Basic Training in Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations.
- Have at least three months of approved sea-going service on chemical tankers within the last 60 months.
- Alternatively, have completed at least one month of approved onboard training on a chemical tanker in a supernumerary capacity, including a minimum of three loading and three unloading operations, documented in an approved training record book as per Section B-V/1 of the STCW Code
- Medical Fitness
- Must be medically fit as per the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards.
- A medical fitness certificate from an approved doctor is required.
- Vision and hearing should meet the required standards.
E-Learning Requirement:-
- As per DG Shipping Guidelines, candidates can only appear for the final examination (Exit Exam/Institute Exam) after successfully completing the E-Learning Module of the course

- Knowledge and understanding of relevant provisions of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and other relevant IMO instruments, industry guidelines and port regulations as commonly applied

What is the CHEMCO Certificate Validity?
- The CHEMCO STCW certificate is valid indefinitely, while the DCE (Dangerous Cargo Endorsement) certificate is valid for 5 years.
To apply for a DCE certificate, follow these steps:
- Under the ‘Seafarer’ section, click on ‘DC Endorsement GMDSS Radio Operator’.
- Select ‘Application for DC Endorsement for Advanced (Level II)’ and proceed with the application.
The DCE certificate is system-generated and will be dispatched to your registered address within 3 to 15 days via post.
